  1. I would like to get in touch with your correpondent who wrote a thesis on the Actresses' Franchise League. My great-great-aunt was Adeline Bourne, one of the founding members and Hon Sec of the society - we have some papers of hers which you might find interesting, and we would love to see your work.

  2. HI I have just heard about the production of Knickerbocker Glories at the theatre. Way back I did my College thesis on the Actresses Franchise League and wrote about its influence in political theatre. No-one had heard of it when I started researching and since leaving College I have heard of very little since. Sadly its too late to come and see the production but if anyone involved in the production is interested in the thesis, I'd be happy to share it (not sure how helpful or interesting it would be now as I wrote it in 1986!) I'd also really like to know if the production tours anywhere else as I'd love to come and see it.

  4. Greetings from Barcelona!

Hi Sacha & Sean. In summer 2009 we went to London from Barcelona specially to see "The Pirates" at the Union Theatre (...and also to visit London, of course).

We remember the high level of the spectacle and also your hospitality (you invited us to drink a "San Miguel" beer and Sean was magic with his cards).

This summer we return to UK (this time to Cambridge) from 29th of July to 9th of August and we hope that we can see another show in your theatre (... or better "The Pirates" another time).

Thanks for all and see you soon...

  5. Hi,

I came to see the production of 'The Pirates of Penzance' tonight at the Wilton's Music Hall and I just wanted to say that I am in complete awe of the production! It is my favourite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and this is the best production I've seen of it! My school did Pirates many years ago with an all-female cast so it was intriguing to see the roles reversed!

Alan Richardson has an amazingly developed falsetto! I'm training to be a singer myself and I know how difficult that part is as a soprano, let alone a male voice!

Well done to you all! Absolutely fantastic, it definately deserved the whatsonstage.com award!

    Stephanie.

  11. Hi!

    Where am I?

  12. Hello just wondering if there are any jobs going in the theatre? Ushers etc?

  13. can you please post reviews and production photos for CONFUSIONS on your site?

  14. I came to see Pirates of Penzance last Tuesday (21 July 09) and was firstly pleased to receive such a warm welcome from Sasha and her mum, both working behind the bar!!

The Union Theatre as a venue is an experience and proves that good theatre can be produced anywhere.

Now to the production, I should start with a summary - AMAZING! I have never been a great G&S fan but was advised that this production was a 'must see!' - what an understatement. It has been many years since I have felt an electic buzz from going to the theatre. I could continue for pages, but from direction to performance this production is inspirational and what I believe live theatre should be about.

I will be returning with friends before the end of the run to see it again!!

    Union Theatre - Thank you!!!

  15. We loved the intimate atmosphere of the Union Theatre and the feeling that one was involved with the whole performance . The Recognition of Shakuntala has great pace and, especially in the second act, great pathos. From a play by Kalidasa that should have lasted for four hours the director, Tarek Iskander , has produced a tighter two hour drama that is a mixture of verse and prose and is strangely absorbing. Guy Moore was particularly strong in his four roles and the cast worked hard to deliver an intense performance.

  16. The Union is a true rarity it is a wonderfully atmospheric space that is run so well by people with a real passion for theatre. We have seen several shows at the Union the production values are consistently excellent the performances are as good and often better than those in the West End...no need for TV Celebs here! The ticket prices charged genuinely make theatre accessible.. we love it!

  17. Saw my first show at the Union Theatre on Friday night - Sweeney Todd. A wonderfully atmospheric theatre with a very helpful and friendly staff. The location of the theatre (underneath a railway arch) is ideally suited to Sweeney Todd and at times I felt like I was back in VIctorian England. A thoroughly enjoyable production that I would heartily recommend. I will certainly go to see other shows there.
